So often we in the media are guilty of overhyping players, matches and tries – but this time around we’re convinced that we’re right on the money.
In a breathtaking display of skill and speed, Stade Francais’ winger Peniasi Dakuwaqa has captured the hearts of rugby fans worldwide with what many are hailing as the ‘try of the decade’. Some enthusiasts are even suggesting it could be one of the greatest individual scores in the sport’s history.
During a recent Top 14 match against Racing 92, Dakuwaqa left spectators and teammates stunned as he embarked on a mazy run from inside his own try line to touchdown at the other end of the field.
Running backwards 10 metres with the ball before setting off sideways another 20 metres, Dakuwaqa then turned to face the chasing defenders.
Choosing to chip the ball over the top, narrowly avoiding an injured player and his physio, the rapid winger then juggled the ball past two defenders before gassing his way up the touchline for an unbelievable score.
