England Rugby head coach Steve Borthwick has named a 36-player squad to participate in a three-day training camp at Pennyhill Park next week.
This training event should give Borthwick a better idea of his final squad selection building to the 2024 Autumn Nations Series. As with any squad selection, there are some notable omissions, but the initial feedback from fans appears positive.
Some have expressed their disappointment, however, that Ted Hill wasn’t given the call-up. Others have suggested that young prop Afolabi Fasogbon should have been given an opportunity to train with the national side considering the currently ageing England front row.
There is, however, the notable inclusion of Alex Lozowski in the squad following six years of exile, having last winning an England cap in 2018 – two World Cups ago.
“After watching a competitive and high scoring start to the Premiership season, I am once again looking forward to gathering the players together,” said Borthwick
“This training camp is an important part of our preparations for the Autumn Nations Series as we continue to build on the cohesion we’ve developed over the past two campaigns.
“The squad reflects the depth and quality we have in English rugby, and we are looking forward to working with the players ahead of what will be a highly competitive series.”
