The great Antoine Dupont has done it again, sliding over to secure victory for France over their rivals Argentina in the second Olympic Sevens quarter-final of the evening.
In a thrilling match that saw both sides with plenty of attacking momentum, France took an impressive three-try lead early on, surging well ahead before the first half ended.
Their dominance, however, was quickly challenged in the second half thanks to the arrival of World 7s Men’s Player of the Year, Rodrigo Isgro. The returning man quickly broke through the host’s defensive line with one of his first touches of the match, touching down to put his side back in with a chance.
Isgro was not widely accepted in front of the French fans after the tip tackle that saw him receive a five-match ban in their last meeting, however, this silenced many of the boos that the returning player had received on his arrival to the field.
Another score shortly after from the Pumas set the game on a knife edge, but it wasn’t to be the almighty comeback this time. As the clock turned red, Antoine Dupont took advantage of the situation with a stunning break through the Argentinian defence, catching them unawares to secure a home victory.
