Antoine Dupont’s eagerly awaited SVNS debut was met with much delight in Vancouver this weekend as the 2021 Men’s World 15s Player of the Year helped France to third place in the tournament.
France’s 12 – 42 victory over the USA in the bronze medal match ensured their highest finish in the revamped SVNS series so far, securing their overall spot of 7th place in the table at the halfway mark.
Dupont’s showing in Canada was mostly limited from the bench as he got used to the faster and more physically enduring seven-man version of the game, but his impact was just as explosive.
Scoring three tries and assisting more, Dupont took to the new game like a duck to water, causing chaos in opposition defences and even scored the winning try in France’s 12 – 5 victory over Ireland.
