The Hurricanes managed to stay red hot in their round 9 match against the Brumbies, posting a 56-21 win against the visitors in Napier on Friday night. As per usual, both Barrett brothers had a heavy influence on the outcome. Ardie Savea was also at his energetic best, putting in this shot on opposing fly-half Wharenui Hawera.
Things weren’t quite as simple during the first half as the Brumbies came back from a 0-14 deficit, with the help of one of the best tries of the comp so far, to take a 21-14 lead into half time.
But the second half fully belonged to the ‘Canes as they delivered tries all over the park, three of which belonged to Vince Aso. Veteran Cory Jane also got in on the action.
If the scoring wasn’t enough, there was also this brutal shot from Ardie Savea. Savea is of course well-known for his high energy and work rate. The hit was delivered a little over half way into the second half and things only continued to deteriorate for the Brumbies.
These types of performances will not be lost on All Blacks head man Steve Hansen, who was present for Friday’s match. With the Lions tour now fast approaching, players will be looking to impress with any chance they get.
“There are so many guys putting their hand up, it’s great,” Hansen said after the match.
After the weekend’s round of play, the record of New Zealand teams over their Australian counterparts now stands at 13-0.
