It was a dream start for Gloucester Rugby who scored the first try in their game against Sale Sharks this afternoon.
Gloucester faced Sale Sharks at Kingsholm Stadium on Saturday in Round 10 of the 2024/25 Gallagher Premiership looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat down at Exeter Chiefs last weekend.
Four minutes into the first half, Gloucester fullback Santiago Carreras scored for the Cherry and Whites in tremendous fashion. The original break that came from Harris and Hathaway, followed by a lovely offload from Tomos Williams allowed Santi Carreras to score for Gloucester – their first of many tries. A lovely link up from the backs allowed the shed to erupt with delight!
The game ended with Gloucester taking the spoils after Sale took too long to get into the game. Final score: 36-20 – Gloucester’s fifth win of the Gallagher Premiership season and they bagged a full five points! Gloucester now climb to fourth, albeit potentially temporarily, while Sale drop to fifth before sixth-placed Saracens’ match with Bristol this evening.

Speaking after the game, Gloucester director of rugby George Skivington told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:
“I think the boys showed real character today. There was a lot of things that could have gone against us.
“We played 20 minutes with 14 men, there was a huge penalty count against us – there were a lot of reasons why we could have fallen off there.
“I think the resilience and the mental character of the boys to just keep moving on and going ‘we can’t actually control this’ was the really pleasing thing tonight.
“The boys played the way they’ve played most of the season. The objective was to be brave against one of the best defences in the league and the boys were and they got the result.”
Sale director of rugby Alex Sanderson told PA Media:
“We gave ourselves some opportunities to at least get something out of the game.
“What I was most frustrated about was how we pulled the trigger in that second half compared to the first half, when we looked as if we were playing within ourselves.
“You don’t win games by conceding 36 points often, away from home at Kingsholm, so we have to have a look at our system defence. The intent was there but I don’t think system-wise we were on the same page.”
