A fantastic montage has been put together which showcases the lethal kicking ability of British & Irish Lions centre Elliot Daly.
The 28-year-old Saracens star has been selected to start against the Springboks in Saturday’s opening game in Cape Town alongside Ireland international Robbie Henshaw in midfield.
Having struggled for form prior to the tour many fans were surprised by Daly’s inclusion in the squad, but he has so far delivered in the warmup games under Warren Gatland.
“I was probably thinking about what I needed to do next, rather than staying in the moment,’ said Daly about his poor form earlier this year.
“At the start of the Six Nations, I was probably too process-based. When I’m being more instinctive and seeing space and going to space, that helps the people around me and I usually get the ball that way. You have to trust in your ability.”
Daly, who played a key role on the 2017 tour, has played the majority of his international rugby at full back under Eddie Jones, but will be starting at outside centre against the Boks.
Daly added: “When I came to Saracens they basically said, ‘Where do you want to play? What’s your position?’ and I said 13,’ added Daly.
“Mark McCall agreed. Obviously the season changes and you play different positions but I’ve played the majority of my time there at 13 and I enjoy it.
“I don’t really care where I play. I just want to try to implement my game. Whatever the role is, I do it.
“Number one position for me: I love to play 13. I have done since I was 18 or 19. Wherever I get picked is brilliant for me.”
Aside from his counterattacking skills, Daly is best known for his long-range kicking ability, which has made him a valuable asset over the years for club and country.
Daly’s left boot could prove a crucial part of the Lions’ tactics throughout the three-Test tour and YouTuber Andrew Forde has put together this four-minute video to demonstrate just how dangerous he is from the kicking tee.
