Cardiff Rugby’s Dan Fish has been cited following the incident late in the game against Harlequins in second round of the Heineken Champions Cup. The incident was posted on social media and received a fair bit of criticism.
The Welshman, who just turned 31, has been with Cardiff for more than a decade and after announcing his retirement in October, Fish responded to an SOS call from the Blues after their Covid-19 crisis.
With a heavily depleted squad Fish returned for Cardiff Rugby against the Dragons and then after several players were left stranded in isolation in South Africa, he represented his club in the Champions Cup against Toulouse last weekend.
Fish once again came to Cardiff’s aid this past weekend to play against Harlequins at Twickenham Stoop, guiding the young side to a brave performance against the English champions.
However after losing 43-17 and putting in a last-minute shot on Quins full back Tyrone Green, Fish may not bow-out in the way he’d hoped.
He now faces a disciplinary hearing after a citing complaint arose.
Fish is alleged to have made contact in a dangerous manner with the head of the Harlequins full back, Green, in the 80th minute of the match in contravention of Law 9.16.
The complaint was made by the match Citing Commissioner, Ciaran Scally (Ireland).
Law 9.16 A player must not charge or knock down an opponent carrying the ball without attempting to grasp that player.
Under World Rugby’s Sanctions for Foul Play, Law 9.16 carries the following sanction entry points – Low End: 2 weeks; Mid-range: 6 weeks; Top end: 10 to 52 weeks.
Gareth Graham (England), Chair, Tony Wheat (Ireland) and Yannick Jauzion (France) have been appointed as the independent Disciplinary Committee for the hearing which will take place by video conference tomorrow (Thursday, 23 December).
