Jack van Poortvliet has been ruled out of the upcoming World Cup after sustaining an ankle injury against Wales on Saturday. Van Poortvliet was seen being escorted off the pitch at Twickenham after damaging his ankle during the match – an injury that has proven to be catastrophic for the young man.

“It’s really bad luck for Jack,” said England head coach Steve Borthwick. “We send him our very best wishes for a swift and successful recovery.”
The 22-year-old scrum half is to be replaced in the squad by Northampton’s Alex Mitchell. A different style of player to Van Poortvliet, Mitchell is expected to run a faster game for the men in white when called upon.
