Ealing Trailfinders have today confirmed in a statement that former England centre Billy Twelvetrees has officially retired from playing.
The 35-year-old former Gloucester Rugby player has called to a halt his glittering playing career after 15 years at the highest level. The man from Chichester started his professional career at Leicester Lions in his late teens, before moving on to Bedford Blues in his final step before top level rugby with Leicester Tigers.
Known mainly for his incredible service to Gloucester Rugby club, Twelvetrees spent over a decade as one of the first names on the West Country side’s teamsheet. It was only last year, heading into the twilight of his career, that he headed over to Ealing Trailfinders to help the side win yet another Championship title.
In a statement released by the club, Director of Rugby Ben Ward paid his tributes towards Billy’s brilliant career:
“Although we only had Billy with us for a year, he made a big impact on our squad. His career speaks for itself and he can be incredibly proud of all that he has achieved. We will miss him as a player, but more than that, he is one of the good guys and a really good bloke that we will miss even more. We wish him all the best for the future.”
