Bordeaux-Begles closed out an impressive Top 14 regular season with a dominant 40 – 7 win over the now-relegated Oyonnax on the weekend.
Ripping into their opponents from the off, Bordeaux were ruthlessly efficient from start to finish as they scored six tries on the evening.
Amongst the run of top-quality scores from international stars such as Damian Penaud and Pete Samu, there was one try that stands above the rest.
Georgian prop Lekso Kaulashvili is a veteran of the Top 14 having spent over ten years in the league firstly with La Rochelle and for the past five seasons with Bordeaux.
Now 31-years-old the Georgian international appears to be hitting his peak years as a tighthead prop.
Whilst many would expect this peak to include exceptional scrummaging prowess (which it does), Kaulashvili might actually find himself negotiating a wingers contract rather a props one when the time comes.
Leading 7 – 0 after 21 minutes played, Bordeaux were certainly beginning to find their rhythm against their soon-to-be relegated opponents.
Looking for a spark to get another try, one would immediately look out wide to the likes of Damian Penaud or Madosh Tambwe.
But hold your horses’ ladies and gentlemen, as Kaulashvili had other ideas.
Taking the ball close to the ruck, it appeared as though the big man might just make an easy contact to set up the next phase.
What followed was a moment of pure, unadulterated front-row joy as Kaulashvili smashed through the initial contact.
Now looking like a bull who had broken out of its bullpen, Kaulashvili raced forward. Clearly making business decisions ahead of next season, the Oyonnax players seemed less than keen on denying him his moment in the sun.
Charging forward Kaulashvili finished off arguably the front row try of the season.
As they say in the world of cycling Chapeau Mr.Kaulashvili!
