English Premiership side the Bristol Bears secured a remarkable 36 – 34 victory over Top 14 outfit Lyon in round one of the Investec Champions Cup on Saturday.
Pat Lam’s side snuck home courtesy of a last-minute Callum Sheedy drop goal in what was one of the games of the season thus far.
Whilst Sheedy’s score rightly dominated the headlines, it was former England U20 stand-out Gabriel Ibitoye who was the star man for the Bears.
Simply put the winger was at times unplayable and clearly relishing the open nature of the fixture.
The 25-year-old has been a smooth operator for the Bears since signing in 2022. Having bounced around clubs for a while, the former Harlequins player looks to have found his home in the West Country.
Given that several of England’s top outside backs of the past decade are now into their thirties, Ibitoye looks every bit ready to step up to the international game.
Two moments in particular that showed his full box of tricks were these outlandish offloads to create two tries.
