The Bristol Bears have had a difficult old start to life in the 2024/25 Investec Champions Cup.
Hosting four times champions Leinster in round one before hitting the road to face two times champions La Rochelle, Pat Lam’s side drew the short straw in this year’s competition.
Showing their true character, the Bears have given the two powerhouse sides all they can handle, scoring some super tries in the process.
Currently trailing the Top 14 side 14 – 7, the Bears looked to be losing their foothold in the contest when Silatolu Latu drove over for La Rochelle’s second score.
Yet, as they have shown all season, the Bears are never out of the fight, given their ability to score from anywhere on the pitch.
So, it would prove once again that the Bristolians produced a masterpiece from what was a routine counterattack opportunity.
Taking a quick line-out, Bristol exposed a lag in La Rochelle’s kick chase and mercilessly exposed their hosts.
Quickly shifting the ball via a crossfield kick, the Bears found winger Jack Bates in a great position to claim the ball.
Facing multiple La Rochelle defenders, the former England U20 Six Nations Grand Slam winner did the rest as he raced away for an incredible score.
