The British and Irish Lions bounced back from defeat to the Highlanders by putting in a strong performance for a 32-10 win over the Maori All Blacks a week out from the first Test. A penalty try and Maro Itoje score helped them to the win.
Fullback Leigh Halfpenny also kicked six penalties and a conversion, while the Maori team scored a lone try through Liam Messam, after Nehe Milner-Skudder imposed himself on the game and George North made a clumsy error.
The Lions forwards had the majority of possession and ultimately controlled proceedings.
“It’s important for our momentum, our confidence,” said Lions captain Peter O’Mahony.
“You don’t want to be going into a game against the All Blacks with losses under our belt. This win goes a long way to building what we want to build.”
The next fixture for the touring Lions is against the Chiefs on Tuesday.
