The Vodacom Bulls came up trumps in their red-hot battle with Leinster at Loftus Versfeld, as they secured a 25 – 20 win to book a place in this week’s final.
Despite dominating the opening exchanges, the Bulls would fall behind as James Lowe pounced for the first try of the contest in the 24th minute.
Five minutes prior to the Leinster try, the Bulls appeared to have taken the lead following a superb pair of long passes from Johan Goosen and Wille le Roux to find Devon Williams unmarked out wide.
As the Loftus crowd erupted and party mode was engaged in Pretoria, the TMO spotted a clear moment of foul play in the build-up to the try.
Following a strong break from number eight Cameron Hanekom, Springbok backrow Marco van Staden had a moment of madness.
Trailing his teammate as the first man set to clear the ruck, van Staden became tangled with Leinster flyhalf Ross Byrne.
Instead of stepping out of the situation, van Staden took a more nuclear approach as he launched Byrne out of the way with something resembling more of a Judo/WWE throw.
Unfortunately for the home side, this action would right off Devon William’s superb try.
Fortunately for van Staden, the Bulls showed cooler heads throughout the fixture to emerge with a well-deserved victory. Adding icing to the cake was the Glasgow Warriors win over Munster, which now sees the Bulls hosting the final at Loftus.
