Fans have been quick to call out the “war crime rendition” of Ireland’s Call in Rome this afternoon, with many claiming it to be the “worst version” they’ve ever heard.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), many fans have joked about the normally powerful song, saying that some broken bagpipes may be more pleasing next time. Others humoured that perhaps the Irish lads weren’t able to concentrate on the game ahead after wondering if the cat they were strangling was going to be ok.

Here are some of the finest responses to the anthem:
Dave Ahern: “Ireland should lodge a complaint for that terrible rendition of Ireland’s call. The players won’t be able to concentrate wondering if that cat they were strangling is going to be ok.”
Paddy Neill: “An absolute war crime rendition of Irelands Call in Rome.”
Noelle: “Oh my god she is butchering the anthem”
Craig O’Halloran: “Whoevers cat is singing irelands call needs to put down”
Aiofe: “That woman who sang irelands call at the 6 nations scared me a bit icl that was shit”
Feeonah: “WTF. Ireland’s Call ruined by the ‘singer’. Hope it doesnt ruin Irelands spirit.”
Ireland will be hoping their day improves, with Peter O’Mahony, Cian Healy, and Conor Murray all playing their final match in green this afternoon.
IRFU Performance Director David Humphreys recently paid tribute to the three men: “Peter, Cian, and Conor are legends of not just Irish Rugby, but Irish sport. Their contribution over the last 15 years has been immense.”
Interim Ireland Head Coach Simon Easterby added, “These guys continue to inspire their teammates and add immense value on and off the pitch. We are determined to send them off on a high.”
Hopefully not as high as the singer’s voice…
