Canterbury of New Zealand, in collaboration with My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and The British & Irish Lions Trust, has launched a special-edition training kit ahead of the 2025 British & Irish Lions Tour to Australia. Proceeds from the kit will support the Foundation’s mission to fund vital motor neuron disease (MND) research and provide care for those affected.
The kit, available for adults and juniors, features a jersey, t-shirt, quarter-zip fleece, and shorts. It pays tribute to the late Doddie Weir OBE, the legendary Scottish rugby player who passed away in 2022 after a courageous battle with MND. Weir, affectionately known as Lion #670, was part of the 1997 Lions Tour of South Africa and remains an enduring figure in the rugby world.

The design incorporates the iconic red of the Lions and Weir’s signature Doddie tartan, reflecting his Scottish heritage. The #670 detail, symbolizing Weir’s Lions cap number, further honours his legacy. Sizes range from XS to 6XL for adults and ages six to 14 for juniors, with prices starting at £16.50.
Scotland and Lions legend Gavin Hastings, a close friend of Weir, praised the initiative. “My Name’5 Doddie Foundation is such a great cause, and the Lions were very close to Doddie’s heart. To see his tartan on this special Lions kit is brilliant,” Hastings said. “I think he’d be so proud to see his tartan on a shirt that meant so much to him.”
Weir, who earned 61 caps for Scotland and had a successful club career with Newcastle Falcons and Melrose, established the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation in 2017 following his diagnosis. The Foundation has since raised millions for MND research and support.
Simon Rowe, Senior Vice President of Sports Marketing at Pentland Brands, expressed Canterbury’s pride in the collaboration. “Doddie Weir epitomizes what it means to be a Lion, showing incredible determination and courage both on and off the pitch. We are honoured to celebrate his legacy with this kit and support the fight against MND.”
The range includes the Kaha rugby jersey, designed with Canterbury’s signature traditional collar and Vapodri fabric for cooling comfort, priced at £32.50 for adults and £24.00 for juniors. The classic fit rugby shorts, with reinforced pockets and adjustable drawcord, are available for £22.50 for adults and £21.00 for juniors. Additionally, the eco-friendly short-sleeve tee is priced at £18.00 for adults and £16.50 for juniors, while the thermal quarter-zip fleece, equipped with Thermoreg technology, is available at £35.00 for adults and £32.00 for juniors.
All purchases will contribute to the Foundation’s ambitious research strategy, ‘Catalysing a Cure,’ which aims to accelerate the discovery of effective treatments and ultimately find a cure for MND.
Lions supporters can wear the kit with pride, celebrating Doddie Weir’s legacy while backing a vital cause. The collection is available for purchase now, offering fans a chance to make a difference while cheering on the Lions during their 2025 tour.
