Munster head coach Graham Rowntree cut a frustrated figure following his team’s 26 – 12 loss to Leinster in front of a record breaking 83,000 crowd at Croke Park this evening.
Falling into an early 21 – 0 hole as Leinster came out firing, Munster would steady the ship from the 20th minute but could never get quite close enough to pressure their rivals.
In a tight and tense affair, a few calls from the match officials have become a hot topic online.
Two incidents in particular, one of which led to a try for Leinster and one which denied Munster a score are front and centre of the debates.
For Leinster, their second score appeared to come despite a knock-on early in the move which the match officials did not go back to check despite Munster’s protestations.
The second incident in question was a try by Munster winger Calvin Nash which was ruled to have been a forward pass again a point which Munster disputed.
Speaking post match, Rowntree referenced the Nash score as a key turning point in the contest.
“Frustration, there were some opportunities that we need to be better at,” Rowntree said.
“I can’t fault their effort – they were going right to the end of the game there.
“I thought the disallowed pass – the forward pass changed the complexion of the game going into the second-half.
“We had other opportunities – we had an opportunity to put Tom Ahern away there for a try.
“They had minimal opportunities and they took them. It is a frustration.”
