Toulouse moved seven points clear at the head of the Top 14 last weekend with a crushing 53-21 victory at home to Lyon, with South African winger Cheslin Kolbe again lighting up the show with his electric attacking prowess.
Such was the dominance of the home side in the first half, Toulouse scored a staggering six of their seven tries before the break, amassing an almost unbelievable 46-14 lead.
Amazingly, in such an open game, Kolbe did not feature among the scorers but his influence in creating the pick of the bunch, for Lucas Tauzin was all too apparent.
His quick feet have always been a major asset in his game, and he bamboozled the Lyonnais defence as he jinked through the gap to set up Tauzin on the left wing. Tauzin then used his considerable frame to bulldoze his way to the try-line to score a powerful try, which all but put the hosts out of sight.
Centre Sofiane Guitoune bagged a hat-trick and the Man-of-the-Match award for his efforts; the former Perpignan player has found renewed form since his move to the Pink City, and was perhaps unfortunate not to be called into the French squad for the 6 Nations.

Another spectacular try featured in the weekend’s compilation was that of Clermont back-rower Fritz Lee, who finished off a terrific counter attack initiated by Setariki Tuicuvu. The Fijian sauntered through the Pau defence before skillfully offoading to the on-rushing Lee who crashed over. Clermont went on to win the match 27-14 despite losing Flip van der Merwe to a red card in the first half.
Toulon slipped to another defeat, this time at home to Montpellier (21-18) but they did score a lovely try through Rhys Webb. The Welsh scrum-half’s struggles to find his feet in Toulon have been well-publicised, but despite this he seems to have entered a purple patch of form of late.
Webb finished off a typically Fijian-made try as Filipo Nakosi and Josua Tuisova carved up the visiting defence with ease before giving the final inside pass.
