Saturday’s Major League Rugby match between Toronto Arrows and LA Giltinis saw possibly the most kamikaze clearance kick you’re ever likely to see.
The Giltiinis were piling on the pressure late on in New Orleans when the Arrows earned a surprise turnover on their own try line.
The ball was passed to a replacement second row underneath his own posts and the big man attempted a clearance kick down field, but instead only managed about 10 metres across the pitch.
The ball rolled along the floor and straight into the arms of the Giltiinis full back, who fed his openside flanker to score a simple try in the corner.
Just a couple of minutes after this bizarre try, the game was called off early due the threat of lightning strikes in the area, capping off a strange conclusion to the game.
The Giltiinis, boosted by the presence of Wallabies legends Matt Giteau and Adam Ashley-Cooper, took a 16-48 win in round four of the competition.
