French international prop Mohamed Haouas has reportedly avoided jail time for kicking and beating his wife at a Montpellier shopping centre.

Reports from the Irish podcast ‘Off The Ball’ has said that Haouas was offered the option of either wearing a tracking bracelet or remaining under house arrest for the duration of his sentence.

In addition to his potential lack of jail time, Haouas has taken his planned future club Clermont to an employment tribunal.

The club allege they were tricked by both Haouas and Montpellier into signing the player. Yet, the tribune ruled that Clermont’s request was unfounded.

“It’s not the profile we took on,” Clemont lawyer Patrick Puso said.

They did, however, also reject Haouas’s requests for “for the early termination of the employment contract” and a payment of €390,000 in respect to this anticipated early termination, as well as a secondary payment of €50,000 for moral damages.

Clermont was ordered to pay €800 for his legal costs.

Speaking about the decision, club representatives said, “We are waiting for the reasons behind this decision before commenting on it,”

Haouas’ lawyer Arnaud Dubois said his client was “relieved to know that he remains employed by a club next year”.

“He is now waiting to know if Clermont will retain him, sack him or offer him a move.”

Whilst the domestic violence case is the highest profile of his cases, Haouas has had other brushes with the law, including receiving an 18-month suspended sentence for his part in a series of robberies in April 2014 and for receiving a stolen car.

Whilst in May, in a separate case, prosecutors recommended Haouas be given a two-year suspended prison sentence for his role in a fight in January 2014, with the decision expected on 30 June.

In addition to his legal issues, Haouas was shown red cards in back-to-back Six Nations campaigns whilst also having a highly public fight with former teammate Bismarck du Plessis.
