Springboks star Cheslin Kolbe was at the centre of a controversial decision during Saturday’s Test match against the British & Irish Lions in Cape Town.
The Toulouse winger took out Conor Murray in the air midway through the first half at the DHL Stadium and after a lengthily TMO referral Kolbe was shown a yellow card.
Apparently Conor Murray landed on his back?! If his face is part of his back then fair enough I suppose! Kolbe should have seen a red card end of! #LionsRugby pic.twitter.com/tvUx0esCW4

Many fans and pundits believe the South African was lucky not to receive a red card for the incident which could have had a significant effect on the outcome of the game.
In the end the Springboks put in a bruising second half performance to win the game 27-9 and level the Test series with one match left. Full match highlights are available below:
REACTION:
If Rassie’s as serious about player safety as he makes out he should be sprinting on the pitch demanding a red card for Kolbe

Seems Rassie has achieved exactly what he set out too. Kolbe and Faf both very, very lucky boys.
The 92 minute video from Gats on Wednesday is going to be something to behold… 👀 #LionsRugby

World Rugby’s clarification of the guideline on contact in the air.
It is quite clear: not in a realistic position to catch the ball, reckless contact in the air, landing on shoulder/head = red card.
Kolbe will be cited for his challenge on Murray. #LionsRugby #RSAvBIL pic.twitter.com/pFjxDlWd57

That’s really bad from Kolbe on Murray.
Another card coming here surely.

Twitter’s servers wouldn’t have coped with a card for Cheslin Kolbe there.

Rassie in the ref’s head here, should be red for Kolbe, yellow for Curry and Mbonambi

Regardless of what some Saffas are saying. Kolbe is a lucky lucky boy. https://t.co/gi9ZyZCaCC

Two red card offences from Kolbe now……..
There is a duty of care. Doesn’t matter if his eyes are on the ball.
