Springbok icon Eben Etzebeth made his first start of the 2024/25 BKT United Rugby Championship this weekend as his Hollywoodbets Sharks hosted reigning champions the Glasgow Warriors in Durban.
Claiming a 28 – 24 win, the Sharks got their campaign back on track following a slow start to the season.
While the score would indicate a close contest, in reality, the Sharks conceded two tries in the final couple of minutes, which closed the scores significantly.
To their credit, the defending champions locked in two losing bonus points courtesy of these scores, which gave a real insight into their mentality and confirmed that they are once again one of the teams to beat this season.
In what was a tight and tense match, tensions boiled over on a few occasions, with one incident in particular causing serious debate.
Getting stuck into each other with some pushing and shoving, the two sides refused to back down before the match officials managed to cool things down.
During this altercation, Etzebeth appeared to make contact with the Warriors’ backrow and former Sharks player Henco Venter’s eye area.
Still wonder why this was never looked at
