Disgraced French rugby player Mohamed Haouas was arrested on Sunday evening for being drunk at the wheel of a car. The Montpellier player was reportedly visibly drunk while driving his car through the streets of the city, and was eventually confirmed to have over 1 gram of alcohol per litre of blood when tested.
The 30-year-old was found with a bottle of vodka in the passenger seat of his car, before being escorted to the local police station to be processed. The exact reading of 1.8 grams per litre of blood was well over the limit of 0.5 allowed in France, and as a result, he will be summoned to court on 4th February at 1:30 p.m. following this new arrest.
Haouas has earned himself quite the unwanted reputation for finding himself on the wrong side of the law, but this, unlike his other convictions, is not thought to be related to violence. The troubled player was convicted of domestic abuse against his wife whilst playing at Clermont in 2023, with the club subsequently ripping up his contract.

“The facts alleged against Mohamed Haouas, and which he admitted, are unacceptable,” the club had said.
“Beyond the ethics advocated by our sport and as recalled by the Minister Delegate Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, they are totally incompatible with the respect and values taught and cultivated within the ASM, the school of professional team rugby.
“By his behaviour, Mohamed Haouas puts himself in total opposition with our identity and our convictions, and in the state of the elements we have, he will not be able to wear, on the ground, the colours of our club.”
There has been no statement made by Montpellier regarding his recent arrest, but it’s fair to say that Haouas’ chances are running thin. It should be noted that the President of Montpellier Hérault Rugby, Mohed Altrad said in June: “At the first slip-up, he will leave again. I hope he has understood after everything that has happened to him.”
