Antoine Dupont’s Olympic Sevens mission has ended in glory as he dragged his team over the line in inspiring fashion to defeat Fiji 28 – 7 in the final.
Locked at seven points apiece at the end of the first half, the game exploded in the second half as Dupont took control as he immediately set up a try with a long range run to put Aaron Grandidier Nkanang over for the score.
Continuing his impressive run as super sub, Dupont scored the final two tries to hand Fiji a first ever loss in the Olympics.
Whilst France were the big winners, Fiji’s achievement cannot be understated as they appeared in a third successive Olympic final.
Away from the top two, South Africa secured a bronze medal despite coming into the tournament on the back of a challenging season on the HSBC SVNS series.
