Plenty is being made of this mammoth match-up due to take place at Twickenham on the 28th May. The Barbarians and the World XV will be stepping out in front of a full crowd as some of the brightest stars in world rugby come to display some truly mercurial rugby.
It has been reported today that world cup hopefuls Quade Cooper and Samu Kerevi will be joining the Barbarian ranks as they look to play themselves into form following some long-term injuries.
Barbarians coach Eddie Jones has also approached the likes of Steven Luatua, as well as a number of his former England players, including Danny Care, Dan Cole, Joe Marler, Jonny May, Jack Nowell, and Sam Simmonds. Welsh players Alun Wyn Jones and Taulupe Faletau are also touted to make an appearance, alongside South Africa’s Andre Esterhuizen.
Unfortunately for Jones, the match takes place in the middle of the players’ mandatory five-week rest period, which could leave him without a few stellar names from the above.
The World XV is set to include rugby superstars Marika Koroibete, Semi Radradra, Joe Launchbury, Danilo Fischetti, Simone Ferrari Lorenzo Cannone, Nick Phipps and Charles Piutau.
Ahead of the tantalising match-up, Jones had the following to say: “I am very much looking forward to returning to Twickenham stadium – a venue I have so many fond memories of – as head coach of the Barbarians, and I’m more motivated than ever to put on a show,”.
