Eddie Jones is set to abandon sinking ship and swim to Japanese shores according to Japanese media, stating that the former national coach is set to take over from departing head coach Jamie Joseph.
It was recently reported that Jones held talks with the Japanese national setup even prior to Australia’s disastrous World Cup campaign. These reports were rubbished at the time by Jones, but should these more solid allegations prove true – then there could be more reason to believe those conversations did in fact happen.
If that was the case, then the Aussie public would not be looking too kindly at Jones as he departs.
Japanese website Sponichi has claimed: “Current Australian national team coach Eddie Jones is expected to return as the successor to Joseph,”
“This spring, Masato Tsuchida, president of the Japan Association, with whom he has had a honeymoon relationship since his days at Suntory, contacted him.
“Contract negotiations have been held privately behind the scenes, and preparations are underway for (his) return (for the first time) since the 2015 World Cup, which led them to a historic three wins.”
If these reports come to fruition then it will leave a very sour mark upon an Australian nation currently without a clear direction or plan.
