Disregarded by many throughout the week as a second-string side, a young Sale Sharks side put it up to an experienced Leinster side in round two of the 2023/24 Investec Champions Cup.
In the end, Leinster would secure a 37 – 27 victory and, with it, the full five points. However, despite leaving the fixture empty-handed, the Sharks will likely have left the RDS as the happier of the two sides.
Getting under the skin of their more fancied opponents, Alex Sanderson’s side were great value throughout and showed a never-give-up attitude.
Trailing by 24 points, many would have expected the visitors to shut up shop. However, they came roaring back into the contest with two tries in the final two minutes.
The last score, in particular was a spectacular effort which started deep in Sale territory.
As he had been all evening, winger Aaron Reid would be the catalyst for the score as he scorched the covering Leinster defence to set up Tom Curtis for the try.
The 24-year-old entered the fixture under the radar for the wider rugby public, but this evening’s performance will have made people sit up and take notice.
