Several former international stars have waded in to debate an incident which occurred during Friday night’s Pro14 game between Scarlets and Cardiff Blues.
Cardiff prop Dmitri Arhip carried the ball into contact in the second half and knock out Scarlets number eight Sione Kalamafoni.
This may divide opinion so let’s see, thoughts on this from Dimitri Arhip carrying into and knocking out Sione Kalamafoni? Do your thing Twitter as some will say red and some will say nothing….. pic.twitter.com/TuBLLZton8

Arhip’s forearm appeared to cause the damage and ex-England fly half Andy Goode took to Twitter to question the legality of Arhip’s carrying technique.
Ben Foden, Neil Back and Tom Shanklin responded by defending the Cardiff prop saying it should be play on while Goode believes there needs to be further clarity on what’s legal.
REACTION:
The Dimitri Arhip carry is dividing opinion, here’s Alafoti Faosiliva being sent off in 2016 for a similar action in the carry. Thoughts on this? https://t.co/PYyoW26180 pic.twitter.com/dgTk4nQuEP

For what it’s worth if the tackler didn’t come in and try and smash the ball carrier he wouldn’t have been knocked out – he chose the wrong tackle technique IMO. I’m not sure what people want the ball carrier to do while carrying the ball 🤷🏻♂️ #playon

Slo mo doesn’t help, you wouldn’t coach attacker to lead into close quarter contact with his ball carrying arm or if he was handing off in more space. IMO action was instinctive in reaction to tacklers intent to go high & take his head off who made a bad choice & paid the price

Play on. Elbow was tucked when contact made, he braces himself and uses arm to push 8 away. Head to elbow rather than elbow to head. What you think @JiffyRugby ?

If you look top left of college that’s initial contact tacklers arm wrapped then blues player drives forward raising his elbow up with momentum the photos are screenshot as it goes pausing it in 5 stages pic.twitter.com/8e1zWvz4yT

Utterly pathetic. Stiff arm to the head, not even reviewed. Glenn should make an official complaint. pic.twitter.com/dlWaA6SMr6
