Heineken Champion Cup semi-finalists Exeter Chiefs were handed an almighty drubbing by Premiership rivals Leicester Tigers in their Premiership clash today.
Falling to a 62 – 19 loss, the Chiefs have slipped down to 7th on the Premiership table and, with it, all but bid adieu to a place in this season’s semi-finals.
As the resounding loss to the defending champion Tigers was unfolding, Exeter was dealt a heavy blow as winger Olly Woodburn was shown two yellow cards.
The second of these cards has already caused quite the stir online as Woodburn was given his marching orders for what appeared to be a routine last-ditch tackle.
Tackling record-breaking Tiger’s wing Chris Ashton (more on him later) as he was diving for the corner. Woodburn was adjudged by referee Karl Dickson to have dived on Ashton on the floor in an unnecessary incident that stopped Ashton from scoring.
