In a typically thrilling Gallagher Premiership game between Northampton and London Irish, Alex Mitchell provided an early contender for assist of the season.
A game between two of the leagues most attacking sides was always going to be an unpredictable affair however the game at Franklins Gardens is somewhat hard to describe.
The final score was 38-22 to Northampton but that doesn’t exactly paint the entire picture. The first half was stop, start and extremely slow paced, lasting for over an hour.
London Irish then started the second half with 12 men, due to three yellow cards, and surprisingly during this period Irish scored three whereas Saints failed to score at all. Then, as soon as London Irish returned to a full fifteen, Northampton scored a try… make that make sense!
However, woven in with all the chaos was a brilliant try assist from Alex Mitchell, which really had it all.
What a special player @alexmitchell97 is.
You won't see many better assists than this one for our opening try this afternoon š„ pic.twitter.com/EAeTkqdOVr
