A full crowd sat out in the vibrant French sun today at the Stade de France as New Zealand and the USA set their sights on the Olympic final this evening.
America were the first to break the deadlock over the Black Ferns when Alev Kelter forced a big fend into her marker’s face before diving over the try line.
However, the Black Ferns aren’t a team you can keep down for long. Shortly afterwards, Stacey Waaka broke the line 50 metres out, racing through for a touchdown under the posts. It wasn’t long before Waaka touched down again for her second as the Black Ferns took true ascendancy in the match.
The next two tries came similarly when Michaela Blyde was given very little space on the right-hand touchline, but one sharp step off her left foot gave the USA defenders the slip as she scored both her 8th and 9th tries of the games.
KriKershy made a final break down the left wing for the US, but it was only to be a consolation as the Black Ferns took the victory.
Final score:
New Zealand 24-12 USA
