The World Rugby Cup is final here and as we are now deep into round one, there have been plenty of takeaways both on and off the pitch.
There has been some blistering rugby matched in equal measure by the heat wave currently hitting Europe.
Whilst the tournament has been a cracking display on the pitch, there have been a few rather peculiar incidents elsewhere. None more so that the bizarre renditions of each country’s national anthems.
In an near unanimous response, experts and fans from around the globe have blasted the performances which have come courtesy of a children’s choir in Paris.
Can whoever is in charge of all the anthems at the @rugbyworldcup please stop butchering the life out of them!

We need to talk about anthems. Should be a highlight of a Rugby World Cup. France, Argentina.. couldn't wait to hear them. Genuinely. Such a letdown, at least in stadium (can't vouch for TV). Passion killers rather than energy givers. Format not working. Needs a rethink #RWC2023

The slow dread creeping over tv viewers as they realise that all national anthems at the Rugby World Cup are going to be acapella with a children’s choir #RWC2023

The Rugby World Cup anthems are shocking. They are an embarrassment and do not represent the talents of the choral community. Instead of adding to the beautiful World Cup atmosphere, they are ruining one of rugby’s great traditions. @WorldRugby, fix it! #RWC2023

These choir versions of the anthems are truly, truly awful. #rugbyworldcup

Now voicing what many have said is Irish legend Brian O’Driscoll who did not hot back in his assessment of the anthems.
“The anthems have been terrible!” O’Driscoll said before continuing on “I was in studio with Sergio Parisse yesterday and the two big anthems if we are honest are La Marseillaise and the Italian national anthem.
“Both of them feel like they’ve been butchered! There is no opportunity for everyone to get in behind it.
“There are choirs and kids singing them. I know that was part of the concept but it’s not working.”
