Former Wallabies winger Drew Mitchell is perhaps more qualified than just about anyone to discuss Australian Rugby.
Capped 71-times by Australia, Mitchell was one of the best wingers in the world during his eleven year international career scoring thirty-four tries during that time.
Now a pundit, Mitchell is utilising his vast experience in the media world namely for the newly formed “The Good, The Bad And The Rugby Australia”.
Reporting back in the show’s latest episode, Mitchell echoed the frustration felt by many Australian Rugby fans in the wake of their loss to an immensely impressive Fijian team.
Taking aim at his former coach, Eddie Jones, Mitchell laid into the direction or lack thereof that he feels Australian Rugby and Jones are taking.
Starting off by paying Fiji their due, Mitchell said, “Let’s not take anything away from the fact that Fiji played really well.”
With the niceties out of the way, Mitchell let rip on the Wallabies performance, saying, “But let’s not get away from the fact that we f****** shouldn’t have lost to Fiji.”
Turning his focus to Jones, Mitchell didn’t hold back, “Eddie sits there and goes, yeah, it’s my fault, I take full responsibility.
“What the f*** does that mean, though, like he doesn’t get dropped this week? He’s not coaching next week.
“It’s just an empty f****** line in a press conference. Yeah, I take full responsibility. Like what does that equate to? Nothing?
“You’ve made some glaring decisions around Quade and around Michael Hooper, captaincy. There have been six captains in seven weeks.
“F****** explain some of these decisions to us because, as fans, we are all sitting here scratching our heads.”
Mitchell then goes on to say that the time for defending Jones is over, “A lot of the time, we can sit there and defend Eddie and the Wallabies because we can understand the logic and decisions.
Clearly incensed by previous decisions around selection, Mitchell expressed his frustration around certain individuals making the cut whilst others didn’t.
“But there’s none of it, and he is sitting there, and he’s not actually given any explanation as to why Quade is not there; why is Michael Hooper not there?
“He’s said Michael Hooper’s injured. Well, you’ve taken Pone Fa’amausili, you’ve taken Max Jorgensen and these other guys that are injured.
“So that’s a redundant point; why the f*** have you not selected Michael Hooper, Quade Cooper, come out and actually tell us as fans why you have not picked these guys?”
Clearly taken aback by their co-host’s brutally honest speech, co-hosts Adam Ashley Cooper and Matt Giteau, both former players of Jones’s were left speechless whilst also agreeing with Mitchell.
Drew doesn’t hold back 😡 after the Wallabies defeat to Fiji. He wants some answers from Eddie and he wants them now!
