A few week’s back we shared a video of three refs taking a tumble and just before it was actually posted, another two incidents occurred. Here’s a look at three of the latest, including one of the bigger tackles on a ref in recent times.
You may have noticed that things have slowed down a bit in the past week or so, causing a bit of panic from some of you. It’s the holiday season though, which means occasionally putting the feet up at this time of year and enjoying some family time. Hopefully you’ve been doing the same too.
Some referees have experienced some time on their backsides lately too, but that’s because of the knocks they’ve taken from players who haven’t appreciated their presence.
In the first of the three clips we see Alain Rolland knocked over as Wesley Fofana scores a great try for Clermont in the Heineken Cup. Geordan Murphy bowled him over across the tryline, and it looked as though he got a bit of a kick in the face from another player too.
We then see Leinster’s fantastic break-out against Bath which nearly resulted in a try. Keep an eye on Luke Fitzgerald’s neat flick pass, and then All Black Stephen Donald as he pushes Jerome Garces out of the way.
The biggest knock was on referee Romain Poite as Scarlets played Munster at Parc Y Scarlets. Lock Sione Timani leant a shoulder into Poite from behind, winding the French referee temporarily as he bounced off another player. Apparently the home fans felt the hit wasn’t hard enough.
Enjoy the weekend and when you party hard tomorrow night, make sure you stay safe. If you’re driving, please stay well away from the drink. Take care and all the best for 2012!
