Gloucester Rugby have today confirmed the signing of former Worcester Warriors star Will Butler with immediate effect.
Stating the need for “strength in depth”, director of rugby George Skivington has implemented the 26-year-old straight into the squad for their European Rugby Challenge cup match against Edinburgh Rugby on Friday.
The talented centre was appointed Assistant Club captain at Worcester in 2020 but sadly lost his employment in 2022 when the club fell into administration. Since leaving Worcester, Butler had a short spell in the RFU Championship with Hartpury RFC and a stint playing for Tasman Mako in New Zealand.
A product of Ledbury RFC, Butler rose through the ranks at Worcester Warriors from the age of 14, playing a vital role in their U18s’ Academy League titles in 2016 & 2017, whilst also making his debut in a Challenge Cup fixture against Enisei-STM in 2016.
Butler was also a successful age-grade international for England, winning the 2017 U20s Six Nations and reaching the final of the U20s World Championship in the same year.
Skivington, commented: “We’re pleased to bring Will into the building here at Kingsholm to bolster our backs. We’re going into a run of really competitive games, so having strength in depth in key areas will be critical.
“Will is an experienced player and he’s extremely motivated to have another shot at the Premiership, so he’s come in with a real hunger to learn and work hard which has been pleasing.”’
