Winning a Gallagher Premiership is the ultimate achievement in English club Rugby. Winning the final with a last-minute drop goal as a substitute player has to be the best possible way to do so.
This is exactly what Leicester’s Freddie Burns did, with time ticking down the Tigers pack edged closer and closer to drop goal range for their flyhalf.
As the Saracens defence, led by Burn’s opposite number Owen Farrell charged forward the Bath native coolly stepped back into the pocket and slotted the drop goal.
The drop goal and Burns performance as a whole will certainly live on in Tigers folklore. However at 2.59am is when Burns truly shone brightest…..
With the Premiership trophy at the foreground and with Queen’s “We are the champions” on full blast, Burns is seen destroying a McDonalds Burger!
Obviously the meal was sanctioned by the Tigers nutrition staff, Burns was doing what all consummate professional do and was getting in his post-match protein.
Clearly the only time available was 2.59am as he had all of his post-match interviews and the function to complete.
Good on you Freddie, a pro at all times of the day and quite frankly a rugby legend!
Nothing to see here, just Freddie Burns celebrating his Premiership victory with a late night maccies 😂 @FreddieBurns 👑 #rugby #FreddieBurns pic.twitter.com/YJgnahEz3T
