Despite New Years Eve approaching rapidly, this weekend the rugby continues up north with action across France, the UK, and Ireland. Here’s an extended look at one of the more entertaining Top 14 games from the last round.
Toulouse beat Montpellier 45-25 at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir a week ago as they cemented their spot at the top of the table after scoring early through Maxime Medard. Flyhalf Lionel Beauxis kept the scoreboard ticking over with a total of three dropgoals, despite Montpellier fighting hard to stay in the game.
In fact there was a fair share of fighting, and a handful of yellow cards on top of that. Thibaut Privat was yellow carded for a strike on Toulouse prop Daan Human, which at the time looked fairly innocuous but has resulted in Human being sidelined for roughly a month with a fractured bone near his left eye socket.
“We haven’t ruled out the possibility of citing Privat for hitting out needlessly at a player who had only just returned,” said Toulouse manager Guy Noves.
William Servat may well be suspended though as he punched Privat later in the game. If he is banned, Toulouse will be thin in that department following Gary Botha’s leg break in the same game, so they have signed Georgian international hooker Akvsenti Giorgadze, from Castres.
Below you can view highlights of the match in the first video, and the foul play incidents in the second. It’s a Playlist so if you’d rather only watch the incidents, feel free to skip ahead to it.
