A squib kick is normally associated with American Football, rather than the less padded Rugby. But that’s exactly what one player has brought into the game with terrific effect.
In a video shared to the Instagram page ‘Sky Rugby’, the player in question is shown nudging the ball along the ground on the restart before regathering and stepping past the opposition to score a wonderful try.
The American Football squib kick is a ‘short, low, line drive kickoff that usually bounces around on the ground before it can be picked up’. This play is generally only performed in rugby when a team spots the opposition off guard at the restart in an attempt to quickly regather the ball. Well, a player has done just that, and gone on to score the mother of all individual tries.
