Leanne Infante hung up her boots after she helped Saracens to a statement win over defending Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR) champions Gloucester-Hartpury on Sunday.
The former England international played in her 100th and final game for Saracens at Stone X Stadium in the 49-38 win. Infante, 31, ends her career with two Premiership titles, multiple Women’s Six Nations trophies and having represented her country at two Rugby World Cups, reaching the final on both occasions.
Infante has a career in finance that she is pursuing now her rugby career is over.
She told TNT Sports: “I have a lot of people here supporting me and even more people back home. So a big thank you to everyone who has come out.
“Saracens have made it unbelievably special this week. I cannot thank everyone who has made it happen.”
Sarries were trailing 33-21 at the break but two tries from May Campbell and scores from Jemma-Jo Linkins and Gabby Senft put the hosts over the line.
Saracens now sit top of the PWR table after four wins from four, two points clear of second place Exeter Chiefs. Gloucester-Hartpury are third, eight points behind Sarries, after two wins from four games.
Player of the Match Zoe Harrison said: “I’m so glad we could get the win for her [Infante]. She’s an incredible girl and an incredible player and it’s very hard to see her go.”
Infante last played for England at the 2022 Rugby World Cup. She competed in the semi-finals but was then ruled out of the final with injury. England lost 34-31 to New Zealand.
Infante told the BBC not being picked again to play for the Red Roses “hurt”.
She added: “The reality is professional sport is cruel, there’s not many people who get to retire on their own terms internationally.”
