Racing 92 player Vinaya Habosi has found himself in hot water once again this week after being arrested on suspicion of domestic violence.
Reportedly under a state of intoxication, the Fijian international allegedly assaulted his wife during an argument on Sunday evening in front of their young child, punching and pushing her at their home in Plessis-Robinson, Hauts-de-Seine. Following his arrest, Habosi was taken into police custody in Clamart, a suburb to the south-west of Paris.
In a statement issued on Monday, Racing 92 said it was aware of the charges against Habosi but would not be making “any further comment” at this time.
“Pending further information from the relevant authorities, Racing 92 refrains from any further comment,” said the club.
This is not the first time the winger has found himself in trouble with the law. Just last year his contract with the Fijian Drua was terminated after a ‘high-level breach’ of their code of conduct, with Habosi alledged to have been involved in another case of domestic abuse.
A statement released at the time read: “The Fijian Drua today confirmed that player Vinaya Habosi has had his contract terminated with immediate effect, due to a high-level breach of the Club’s Code of Conduct,” the statement read at the time.
“The decision was made after careful consideration, and full due process was accorded to Vinaya throughout the process.”
At just 24 year of age, Habosi has shown plenty of promise on the rugby field for both club and country, starting in all of Fiji’s 2023 World Cup matches. But with his disciplinary record adding up, the talented winger could find his playing opportunities dwindling as time goes on.
