All Blacks winger Rieko Ioane had a moment to forget in the opening quarter against the Chiefs to gift Mitch Karpik a try in the corner.
The Chiefs made a break down the left wing and chipped the ball into the corer for the Blues defence to deal with.
Ioane was first to the ball and was immediately wrapped up by his opposite number. The 22-year-old then tried to offload the ball to Melani Nanai on his own try line, but Karpik was there to steal an easy intercept try for the Chiefs.
Ioane has already accumulated 22 tries in 24 appearances for New Zealand but this isn’t the kind of play he wants Steve Hansen to see in the lead up to this year’s World Cup in Japan.
The Blues came back to win the game 23-8 at Eden Park leaving them fourth in the New Zealand conference after round 14.
