In a scintillating start to Ireland’s match against Argentina at the Aviva Stadium this evening, three tries were scored in just five minutes of gameplay, but only two would stand.
After an incredible opening passage, in which two of Argentina’s clearance kicks were charged down, it appeared as though Ireland were guaranteed to make an early score of their own as they battered on the creaky hinges of the Argentinian doors.
In true fashion of what had become a thrilling start to the match, the visitors matched the pace and aggression of their hosts, breaking away through a staggered Irish defence. Such was their ferocity and fluidity in the counter, the blue and white’s Matías Moroni pounced on the bouncing ball to touch down in the corner for a surprise first score.
However, the deathly quiet Aviva Stadium remained mute for only a short period, when a high tackle in the build-up was shown on the big screen, threatening to wipe the score off the board. The try scorer Moroni was issued a yellow card instead of a try after footage showed an illegal hit on Jack Crowley.

Smarting from the breakaway, Ireland looked to take advantage of this slice of luck, charging over the line through number ten, Jack Crowley, effectively taking the Argentinian points for their own.
