Ireland’s U20 kept their dreams of a third consecutive U20 Six Nations Grand Slam alive by the thinnest of margins this evening against Italy.
Controlling the majority of the first half, Ireland looked shellshocked to be trailing by two points at half-time. Lacking their usual clinical edge, Ireland saw several try-scoring opportunities slip away in the face of a ferocious Italian defensive effort.
Taking control of proceedings, Italy scored two tries through 6’4″ powerhouse winger Marco Scalabrin, who was phenomenal throughout the match.

Yet, in the cruellest of ways, the Azzurri would be denied a famous victory as Ireland took a chance late to edge ahead.
Striking for the men in green was highly touted back row Sean Edogbo, who is the younger brother of Munster’s breakthrough secondrow talent Edwin, who burst down the right-hand touchline to score Ireland’s only try of the second half.
Showing his dynamism, Edogbo left the Italian cover defence in his wake before barging over one final tackler to score the decisive try.
