Connacht and Ireland winger Mack Hansen has gained quite a reputation over the past two seasons.
The Australian-born flyer’s rise from relative obscurity on the fringes of the Brumbies Super Rugby squad to quite possibly one of the best wingers in the game today has been meteoric, to say the least.
Now firmly part of the furniture within Irish Rugby, Hansen has endeared himself to Irish fans as a fun-loving personality that breaks the mould of the stereotypical media-trained athlete.
Unafraid to be himself, Hansen is a breath of fresh air and has become a key member of the fun, family-orientated camp that head coach Andy Farrell promotes.
Having come off the bench during today’s rampant Irish victory over Romania, Hansen was a bundle of energy as he stretched the Romanian defence every time he got the ball.
As the final whistle blew in a sun-soaked Bordeaux, the players and fans alike appeared relieved to be getting so respite from the heat.
Whilst the feeling was unanimous about the heat, few in attendance would join Hansen in stripping right down to his underlayer.
Seemingly enjoying the break from the wild west of Ireland weather, one gets the feeling Hansen has become one of the most popular players in the game today.
