Ireland have exited France via plane two weeks earlier than expected after their devastatingly close-fought loss against the All Blacks on Saturday. The Irish lads performed brilliantly in every one of their matches during the World Cup, and despite their early exit, they have once again done their country proud.
A group of players with this level of team cohesion on the field have undoubtedly got the same off of it. And true to their nature there have been some fantastic sightings of the lads around France throughout the tournament – whether that’s been Peter O’Mahony and Connor Murray enjoying a Rose on their day off, or O’Mahony whizzing along on a bicycle with Keith Earls on the back.
Their final sighting of the tournament was the lad’s ascent to the skies of Paris as they made their way back to Ireland. Filmed boarding the plane back to Dublin, the players took control of the intercom, using the opportunity to roast Johnny Sexton for one final time.
Taking the first opportunity on the mic, number 8 Jack Conan urged the other passengers to “move up and congratulate him personally” as he would “absolutely love that“, before adding that they should all give him a “hug and a kiss”.
Obviously still reeling from the quarter final exit, Conan decided to poke fun at the retiring captain with reiterating that Johnny would be “delighted to meet everyone”.
Bundee Aki couldn’t miss out on the fun, and jumped on the mic to mention that because Sexton is now retired, he has “all the time on the way”.
