Newcastle Falcons and England hooker Jamie Blamire has reportedly signed for Leicester Tigers. The signing, exclusively detailed by The Telegraph, is a direct replacement for the departing Julian Montoya who is tipped to sign for Pau at the end of the season.
Although not currently in the England squad, Blamire has been a prolific member of the national setup when involved, scoring 6 tries in just 7 appearances. The move to former Premiership champions Leicester will hopefully give the 26-year-old a more elevated platform to be seen by Steve Borthwick.
During his time at Newcastle, Blamire became a fan favourite, achieving over 100 caps for the north-east side. This will be a big loss for a team who recently achieved their first league win in 18 months, beating Exeter Chiefs 24-18.
Leicester fans on X have been extremely pleased with the signing, John Kicinski said: “Brilliant signing by @LeicesterTigers a great player .”
Ben Wightman added: “Winner, winner, winner. Was right at the top of my list to replace Montoya. Great player, great signing.”
Mobroglen concluded: “Good move for him. A class player stuck in a team going nowhere. Hopefully will be able to push on and get in the national squad”
