Eddie Jones has resigned from Australian rugby after less than a year in charge of the Wallabies.
His second stint in charge of the national side has been fraught with controversy and disappointment from all sides. Jones’ insistence on dropping big names experienced players from the national setup prior to the World Cup proved to be a gamble that failed to come off, with the side exiting in the group stage for the first time in their history.
His record of just two wins in nine matches this year has not been the fairytale return that Jones nor the Australian public were hoping for, and it appears, now, as though patience has worn thin for both sides.
Choosing to resign from his post as head coach, Jones expressed his disappointment in the failed venture.
“[I] gave it a run. Hopefully be the catalyst for change. Sometimes you have to eat shit for others to eat caviar further down the track,” Jones said.
There is currently no word on the successor to Jones, nor whether he will indeed be taking up a position with Japan Rugby. Time will tell.
