The next round of the Junior World Championships takes place today, with a few crucial games that will determine who makes it through to the knock out stages. Here’s a look back at what happened on Friday, in Round two, with one huge upset in particular.
New Zealand’s U20 side, the Baby Blacks, were defeated for the first time in the tournament’s history as Wales got the better of them in muddy and wet conditions in Stellenbosch.
Not only was it New Zealand’s first loss in the tournament, spanning 21 matches, but last year they had beaten Wales 92-0 in Italy, reiterating the magnitude of the result. Young up and coming starts Matthew Morgan and Tom Prydie both played crucial roles towards aching the 9-6 victory.
Argentina also produced an upset win, as they followed up their opening round win over France with an impressive 15-3 victory over Australia.
“In this tournament it’s a another victory for us. We want to win, we have a dream and don’t think anything is going to stop us,” said Argentina captain Sebastian Poet.
Below are highlights from all the matches, featuring the aforementioned upsets, as well as England vs Ireland, South Africa vs Italy, Fiji vs Samoa, and France vs Scotland.
