Justin Tipuric scores two great tries against Newport Gwent Dragons

BY Grant Constable  ·  Tuesday Oct 29, 2013

Welsh flanker Justin Tipiruc scored twice as the Ospreys beat Newport Gwent Dragons 40-17 at the Liberty Stadium on Friday night. The Lions tourist scored a try in each half, putting down a marker for Wales inclusion for the upcoming Autumn Internationals.

His try in the first half came after he stayed up in support of a great run by Matthew Morgan, who offloaded in the tackle by fellow Wales loose forward Toby Faletau.

The second was an individual effort as he showed that he may well be a frustrated back, getting the ball in a tiny bit of space before putting it on the boot, then collecting after a good bounce.

He had Andrew Bishop on his inside, and if you watch closely afterwards it looked like he got up and apologised to the centre for not passing to him. Fair enough, but the chip and chase was perfectly executed, and it helped him pick up the Man of the Match award on his 50th appearance for the club.

Dragons head coach Lyn Jones admitted that it was a pity he didn’t get a hat-trick.

“It’s nice to observe and appreciate good rugby play. When there were 29 players slugging it out in the first half, he just kept himself above everybody, and he carried it through to the second half. He was like two players on the field,” Jones said.

“He was excellent, outstanding and in lots of respects it was disappointing he didn’t get a hat-trick.”
